Teeya Smith
Birth and Postpartum Doula

" Teeya was our sounding board, our comfort, and the advocate we had hoped for"

We were so grateful that Teeya was with us every step of our journey. Not only did she help equip us with tools for labor and help us know what to expect, but she also made herself available for any and all questions that popped up. When my water did broke and we spent over 48 hours trying to get contractions to start, Teeya was our sounding board, our comfort, and the advocate we had hoped for when working with the hospital care team. As the birthing person, she not only looked out for my physical and mental state during labor, but she also did what she could to make sure I was emotionally ready by encouraging me to process the frustration I was feeling about miscommunications with our care team. Teeya was just an overall incredible fit for us as a doula and we truly can't imagine the birth of our daughter without her being an integral part of the journey.

My Story

Hello! My name is Teeya and I’m a certified birth and postpartum doula serving families in the Bay Area for over a decade now. My roots are in Northern Idaho where I grew up in Clark Fork, a small town nestled in the mountains. What originally brought me to California 16 years ago was actually singing! I have a bachelor degree in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I primarily studied classical technique. Working with my voice provided me with a deep understanding of breath and prompted me to further explore the intricacies of the human body. This journey led me to India, where I immersed myself in the study of yoga and meditation. Today, I integrate these skills into my work as a birth doula, assisting individuals in connecting with their bodies and finding their voice throughout the birthing process and pregnancy.

As a doula, my mission is to provide personalized support, advocacy, and guidance to birthing individuals, ensuring they feel empowered and respected throughout their birthing experience. Labor can look different for everyone! Listening to the birthing person's intuition and staying present with them in the moment is how I help my clients find their rhythm and flow in labor. I believe in informed consent and bodily autonomy and it is my goal to make sure that all birthing people feel that they are being cared for and listened to in their birth experience. Birth can feel vulnerable at times so I aim to create an environment that feels safe, compassionate and nonjudgmental.
